Our Backyard
This last weekend we did a lot of work on our backyard and getting our vegetable garden ready. We also planted Feather Reed grass all along the side of the yard as a fence.

Today at Washington park we saw a hawk kill a squirrel. He sit on the ground for about 6 to 8 minutes, in till the squirrel was dead, he then flew up in a tree for about 10 minutes, from there he flew up to the post you see in the video. He was beautiful.

Transition Northfield
The transition idea began around five years ago in Ireland and England as a community-based response to peak oil and climate change. Its leading text is permaculture designer Rob Hopkins’ book The Transition Handbook.
The transition movement is a large-scale self-organizing social experiment whose participants bring a great diversity of interrelated concerns revolving around local resilience. There are indications that restoring local food security is becoming the movement’s primary short-term goal. Local monetary systems are also very important both as a practical measure promoting economic stability and as a means of restoring sovereign power to the people.
The transition movement is growing quickly and is already well established in the US: http://transitionus.ning.com/.

Fuquay Varina, North Carolina
On January 27, I drove my daughter, Sommer to Fuquay Varina, NC. it was a long trip. We drove thur that big winter storm. I called Jeff at home to have him check the radar, to see when I would be driving out of it, all he could say was "it a big ass storm honey". So the drive was long, it's Tuesday and I'm still tired. I drove thur Kentucky on the way home, oh it was beautiful, every thing was covered in ice, trees falling all over but the roads were clear.
I was shocked by some of the things I saw, East Chicago into Gary, Indiana, OMG so much pollution, miles and miles of factorys, I have never seen that kind of pollution before. In West Virgina the strip mining was bad, at the rate they are going the Appalachians Mountains will be gone. This trip was an eye opener for me, I had only read about major pollution before, unfortunately now I have seen it in person.
